When we started working on Dr. Sanjay Kumar Shivpuje’s residence in Latur, Maharashtra, our objective was clear:

Create a home that feels modern today, remains relevant for decades, and offers a unique experience in every corner while maintaining a strong sense of continuity throughout.

It sounds simple. It required reimagining everything.

The Double-Height Challenge

One of the defining elements was a dramatic double-height living area.

On paper, this sounds impressive. In reality, it’s a challenge.

Such spaces naturally create a sense of grandeur, but they also demand careful attention to scale, proportion, and comfort. Get it wrong, and the volume feels vast and impersonal. Get it right, and it becomes the visual heart of the home.

The challenge: Make it feel grand AND intimate simultaneously.

Through thoughtful planning of architectural details, feature treatments, lighting, and furniture placement, we transformed the space into something rare — a room that impresses without intimidating. A volume that welcomes rather than overwhelms.

But here’s the technical complexity nobody talks about: Managing air circulation and cooling in a double-height environment requires precise coordination. AC placement, fan positioning, insulation strategy — every decision had to support performance while remaining visually unobtrusive.

Comfort and design working together. Not competing.

The Connected Home

Another key challenge: Creating unified design language across multiple floors.

It would be easy to design each room independently. But then you’d have a collection of spaces rather than a home.

We wanted the residence to feel connected as a whole — where you move from room to room and feel the same design intention, even as each space has its own personality.

The master bedroom was envisioned as a calm retreat — balancing luxury with simplicity. A space for restoration, not display.

The children’s room introduced playful and imaginative elements while remaining sophisticated enough to grow with its occupants. Not a theme-park bedroom. A space that evolves with the child.

Family spaces were designed to encourage interaction and relaxation — rooms that support togetherness.

Recreational and terrace areas became extensions of the home’s lifestyle — places to unwind, entertain, and enjoy together.

Achieving this required careful control of materials, colors, textures, and lighting. Instead of relying on excessive ornamentation, we focused on creating interest through proportion, layering, and subtle detailing.

Every room feels distinct without disrupting the overall harmony.

The Natural Elements Thread

Nature became an integral part of the design narrative.

Green walls. Landscaped pockets. Sit-out areas. Thoughtfully placed indoor plants. These elements weren’t added as decoration.

They were woven into the design to create connection — with nature, with each other, with the lifestyle the family wanted to live.

Timelessness Over Trends

Perhaps the most important decision: Choosing timelessness over trends.

You can design a home that feels “current” in 2024. In 2029, it might feel dated. In 2034, it might feel like a snapshot of 2024.
